AABSyS Deploys its Home Grown Software
By Pragya Gupta | Dec 17, 2007
This Article:
AABSyS Information Technology, an export-oriented software company providing IT services to customers in US and Europe, has deployed the in-house project management software named "iCompass.net". The company boasts this software to be the lifeline of the organization. "iCompass.net" is one of the products of Bloochip Infoline, a sister concern of AABSyS.

Need for a solution:

The company has an overseas customer base and these were tasks in abundance that were handled manually. Manual completion of tasks was time consuming, which eventually resulted in inefficiency.

The company required a gamut of technical guidance in a single package to boost its efficiency and handle multiple client requirements that could be customized according to its requirements.

Solution deployed:

According to Rashmi Singha, chief administrative officer of AABSyS, iCompass.net enables the users in organization to create and send online invoices for completed projects, coordinate with various communications tools, and add and share corporate documents and reports to the members.

It reduces the manual work and is completely automated. It helps in salary management, lead management, complaint management, project management etc.
The best part being that it is an in-house development, the software system can be customized and upgraded anytime without incurring additional cost.

Benefits:

Singha, said, "This software acts as a "manager, team member, and a supporter" for our company.

Singha can now manage her team members more effectively in addition to managing their timesheets and reports for quicker decision making.

Post-implementation, the company is able to manage its workload efficiently. It bills its customers on the basis of man-hours. Every task is computerized and no work is done manually. An employee enters the organization logging in through iCompass.net system. He is assigned tasks through it, and eventually the productivity is calculated on the basis of man-hours.

Singha says that iCompass.net is hosted on a router machine and seniors can access this system from all over the world. Hence, any senior person can monitor the pending and the ongoing tasks from anywhere. The company uses only licensed softwares like (AutoDesk Map 3D 2006,AutoCAD Map 2000, AutoDesk Map 2004, AutoDesk Map SER 2006, AutoDesk ADT 2004,AutoDesk ADT 3.3,Bentley Microstation 7,M- Colour, and ABCOM Area Manager), which are expensive initially, but ultimately prove to be cost-effective.

The solution provides support in sales and service management, timesheet, human resource function management, customer support system, content and document system, and report management.

At the user's end, this application has more advantages, as it's flexible and cost-effective than proprietary software from large enterprises. This application uses open source technology and can be customized as per the customer's requirement.

Furthermore, since the company has overseas customers, the software entails a secured internal Query Management System (QMS) by which the clients can send their feedback online. This works as a forum for online vendor-client discussions. The organization can easily manage projects, documents and other activities dispersed over multiple locations.

SNAPSHOT

The company is located in Bhuvaneshvar, Orissa with a global customer base. The company has a core competency in Internet-based software development and data management. The company also provides IT solutions for SMBs.

Bloochip, the software development subsidiary of Aabsys, has developed the iCompass.net software.

Siddhartha Mohanty, head-business development, AABSyS said, "We have an annual turnover of more than Rs.1.8 Crore and we spend 20-25% of the revenue on IT."

Challenges:

* There was a need for automation of manual tasks to cater to broad customer base.

* A requirement of a gamut of technical guide for customized and cost-effective requirement.

* Company being located in Bhubaneshwar (Orrisa) has certain disadvantages, as it's not an IT hub and living standard in general is not as high as compared to the Tier-1 cities.

* The volatility of the workforce is another major challenge as attrition rate is mounting up. Prospective employees have higher expectations from the company in terms of remuneration and facilities.

Solution:

* Implementation of In-house project management software - iCompass.net.

Benefits:

* The company is able to manage its workload efficiently.
* It bills its customers on the basis of man-hours.
* Every task is computerized and no work is done manually.
