6 Steps to Create Better Websites
By enterpriser staff | Jan 18, 2008
This Article:
Your website can be a very effective marketing tool, if you can wield it for your product marketing. If products and other important business information are attractively showcased on your website, rest assured that visitors to your website will be highly impressed. You need to think about requirements and accordingly scout for a web designer, who can deliver best returns for the money spent.

Here are a few tips you can follow while developing your new website:

* Browse on the Internet and keep an eye for websites whose design interests you. Look at features and facilities of other websites, for preliminary information about design, content and style that your website must have. Also figure out how many pages you need for your website. It has been determined visitors don't want to see more than two pages at a time. So if you go on adding unnecessary information and pages, the visitor is likely to get bored and leave the site. Keep it brief and to the point should be your motto.

* As an IT head you must be well aware of the importance of keeping within the prescribed budget. You may have liked a certain design for your site, but going ahead with it and then discovering halfway through that it will cost more than what you are willing to pay will be frustrating. Decide beforehand how much you can shell out, also determine how much the project is likely to cost before embarking on it.

The cost for developing a website depends upon the complexity of the website design as also the experience and expertise of the designer. If costs are a major concern you can also hire a novice or amateur designer, so you pay less without compromising on quality.

* Also take care about nature of content - whether it should be static or dynamic. Companies usually prefer dynamic websites, since they are more attractive and more engaging to the visitor. Your website should be laden with latest information for which regular updates are must.

* Check the credentials of your web designer. When you approach a designer ask for reference of any prior work that they have done or urls of sites they have designed. It is even better if you can get customer satisfaction letters or remarks from their previous clients. Don't forget to discuss the project estimate and what your own expectations are for the site before finalizing the deal.

*Get the site copyrighted in the company's name. Sometimes web designers keep the design and template with It is advisable to avoid this, so that in future, after the contract is over, if you want you can select a different web designer.

* Decide where you want to host your site. There are various options available, for e.g., few developers can offer hosting themselves. Another option is that you can subscribe to hosting services, and have your own domain name. Get your portal registered in your name and for registering site consider these options: '.org', '.net' and '.com', etc.
