Trend Micro recently released a new 2010 consumer line of its Internet security products. The new versions of Trend Micro Internet Security and Trend Micro Internet Security Pro are being touted to be the first to be optimized for Windows 7. Now faster and smarter while remaining easy to use, they provide superior protection without draining computer resources. According to Trend Micro, these releases are also based on user feedback. Consumers had stated that they find security software programs heavy on resources and tiresome to manage. Compared to last year, the new products have a 20-percent reduction in installed file size and scan time Trend Micro Internet Security and Internet Security Pro give consumers the freedom to shop, surf, or bank online without having to update or manage their security programs. Both offer features that lets consumers stay protected effortlessly. For example, the Home Network Security Management function allows consumers to see and remotely manage other computers in their home network through a graphical home network map and also block wireless network intruders.
Trend Micro has also tried to alleviate the need for consumers to manually adjust their security program. The 2010 products are also 'state aware.' This means that scans and updates occur only when it is convenient for consumers. It does not involve inconvenient in-product messages while watching a video, conducting a PowerPoint presentation, or playing a computer game.
The Security Activity Dashboard has been improved too. The dashboard lets customers view a detailed and customisable snapshot of all security activities on their computers through charts and graphs. Trend Micro Internet Security and Internet Security Pro are powered by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network infrastructure. This works in the background, correlates threat intelligence, protects in the Internet cloud, and gives consumers real-time protection.
Enhanced parental controls are also part of Trend Micro's consumer products so that parents can control both inbound traffic to (by blocking inappropriate Web site content) and outbound traffic (personal information such as home addresses, phone numbers, passwords, etc.) from a computer.
Additional enhanced security features include: Ability to automatically prevent suspicious software on USB drives from opening and installing itself on the computer. Ability to analyze suspicious domain names and block attempts to open potentially dangerous Web sites. Rates the safety of hyperlinked search results via search engines such as Biglobe (one of the largest Internet Service Providers in Japan), Infoseek and Bing on the Trend Micro Toolbar. Includes improved correlation via the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network, since customers are part of a 'neighborhood watch' system of protection -- this translates to greater security.
Multi-Device Protection Trend Micro, through its multi-device security strategy for the home, has also extended its protection to the Mac platform, netbooks, USB drives, the Sony PlayStation and Sony Portable, Linksys by Cisco routers, and the Apple iPhone.
As part of the Internet Security Pro package, Trend Micro also provides something known as 'ubiquitous' protection -- which is specifically tailored for the mobile workforce. Consumers who use laptops or smartphones also get a license for Mobile Security, which protects smartphones against viruses, spam, data theft, service disruptions and other malware attacks against Windows Mobile- and Symbian OS-based devices.
