Kaspersky Lab has announced the beta-version release of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server 6.0 -- a security solution for Linux file servers. According to the leading producer of secure content management solutions, malicious programs are also capable of passing through Linux file servers and target other parts of a heterogeneous network. The malware could go on to infect workstations running Microsoft's Windows OS too. Even though Linux operating systems are known for its reliability, they still require protection. Kaspersky Lab estimates that every year there is an increase in the amount of malware being developed for Linux systems.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server 6.0 offers anti-virus protection to the majority of Linux file servers. It follows Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server 5.7 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Samba Server 5.5, and combines their functionalities and includes a number of new capabilities as well.
The architecture of Linux File Server 6.0 provides multi-layered protection for file systems in Linux/heterogeneous networks. It functions on the entire file system level and on the Samba server level simultaneously .
Kaspersky Web Management Console Linux File Server 6.0 offers a wider set of management solutions, with a new Web-based interface, full-scale management capabilities available and the ability to access the console from any computer.
The final release of the product will include support for all centralised management services via the Kaspersky Administration Kit.
OS Support Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server 6.0 supports all modern 32-bit and 64-bit distributions of Linux operating systems. These include Red Hat, Fedora, SUSE, openSUSE, Debian GNU, and Ubuntu. Another improvement is the added support of Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 and Novell NSS, making it easier for Novell NetWare users to migrate to the new operating system.
Currently, Linux File Server 6.0 is going through the beta testing phase. The company has invited users to participate in the beta testing process. Kaspersky Lab has also provided an e-mail address for users to send constructive feedback to their developers. The developers are interested in receiving feedback on the new features that have been incorporated into Linux File Server 6.0.
