Devon IT Launches Intel Atom-based Thin Clients
By enterpriser staff | Mar 19, 2009 1403 hrs IST
This Article:

The Intel Atom processor is powering a new generation of thin clients for centralized, server-based networks. Devon IT, a company that offers alternative desktop solutions through its thin client hardware and software, has launched the TC5 -- an Intel Atom-based thin client for businesses interested in implementing a centralized server-hosted environment. The thin client is able to deliver on the management and security front while being powerful enough to cater to advanced software applications and web-based, graphics-rich programs.

An Alternative Desktop Solution
Devon IT's TC5 -- which uses Intel's Atom processor (better known for being used in numerous netbooks today) -- is a stateless, fanless thin client. It is much smaller than conventional desktop PCs, energy efficient and capable of supporting dual independent displays. This is the first thin client to support Dual-DVI (digital video interface) making it a very viable option for companies that need to reduce expenditure on desktop PCs.
Occupying a small footprint the Devon IT TC5 has no fan, consumes less electricity than desktop PCs, reducing the overall total cost of ownership. Its specifications are especially ideal for those companies that have a server-hosted environment and are on the verge of phasing out their old desktops.

Devon IT feels its next-generation thin client solution is ideal for companies that work more demanding applications on a thin client. These companies are mainly from the healthcare, education and financial services industries. Currently the TC5 thin client is available for order from IBM.
