Apple iPhone to Hit Indian Market Soon
By enterpriser staff | May 6, 2008
This Article:
Vodafone has announced that it has signed an agreement with Apple to sell the iPhone in 10 of its markets around the globe. Later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa, and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network.

The iPhone created a storm when it was released last year. An Internet-enabled multimedia mobile phone, it does away with the need for a traditional number pad by incorporating a virtual keyboard. It also offers emailing, web browsing, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The iPhone has not been officially launched in India. It comes with a SIM lock in place and can be used with only a licensed service provider, like AT&T, T-Mobile, O2, Orange, etc. iPhones currently in India are bought overseas and have to be "unlocked" before they can be used. However, it appears that this circuitous route may soon be unnecessary.

you can unlock and use, but product warranty gets void(i guess). Also, its meant for connoisseur, not good for every-day use.(SMS compose is not intuitive).

Pricing will be the most crucial factor.India is a Mass market but it is not a Class market. But then Volume can compensate that.
