MSIDC: Celebrating 10 Years of Innovation
By enterpriser staff | Aug 13, 2008
This Article:
Microsoft India Development Center (MSIDC), situated on the sprawling greens of Microsoft's Hyderabad campus, celebrated 10 years of its operations in India on August 12, 2008.

Joining in the celebrations was Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, who released a book charting the 10-year journey of Microsoft's largest product development center outside Redmond and inaugurated a new MSIDC building on the campus with a capacity to house more than 2000 employees.

Speaking on the occasion, Srini Koppolu, corporate vice president and MD, MSIDC said, "Our focus is on creating global products for Microsoft away from its Redmond facility. Our vision is to innovate from India to drive global economic growth and empower the next billion customers from emerging markets."

He further added that IDC would continue to focus on three key aspects namely, products, engineering quality & innovation and people. "Our facility here has grown from just 20 people in 1998 to around 1500 today. We've successfully developed key global products in the last decade which is reflected by the 200 patents filed in the last four years alone," he said.

S. Somasegar, senior vice president (Developer Division) of Microsoft revealed that the company's development centers across locations such as India, China, Israel and Europe were a result of its concerted attempts to tap global talent. "Having IDCs in emerging regions like India and China is the key to developing emerging markets," he opined.

Asked to elaborate on the ongoing development initiatives at IDC, Somasegar revealed, "Mobile development, which has an installed global base of approximately 2.4 billion users and growing, is one area that we are looking at. The development of testing tools is also on the anvil since software testing has now become a critical aspect."

Somasegar also voiced his optimism on the future of digital technology. "Recent years have witnessed a growing proliferation of digital devices. Using software we want to provide users with a connective experience," he said.

A highlight of the day-long celebrations was a recorded video message from Bill Gates, Microsoft chairman, congratulating the IDC team for their innovative contributions to the Microsoft product portfolio.
